Hello Sir!
On what bases the Pearl Academy choose there students. I mean what is the criteria or what do u actually look for, in a student. Because i have heard people say that if you dont even prepare for the entrance test of Pearl, then too you will get through and they take everybody, so nobody needs to perpare much for it. And even now why do people prefer NIFT and NID as there priority colleges and why not PAF?...

thank you sir...
we are feeling really elated with the way things are shaping up..highly contented with the faculty and seniors are pretty nice..
just a little scared of the submission thing as told to us by the seniors..
and not to miss the huge and splendid campus we have...real nice beginning for an amateur..
hope we get it right throughout the course and the rest of the life..and something which you only can teach us is how to stick to the pure white basics!!!

Jayati and Madhulika.... Great to hear your questions. And they are very valid, as it but natural for you to ask how Pearl is different from NID and NIFT. My response to that is as follows:
a. How it is different is a difficult yet easy question. Its easy to answer because NID focuses on design in a very holistic sense and has always been pioneering the application of design thinking in a wide variety of areas. NIFT, on the other hand, has been set up to address the requirements in the fashion and lifestyle sector only. In that sense, Pearl is closer in concept to NIFT. NIFT is also an older institution and therefore has spread itself across the country. Pearl is unique, as it has been set up by the industry for the industry; not by the government or any other such body. Pearl's commitment to excellence is driven by itself and not by rules and regulations from outside.
b. It is also difficult to answer because the subject domain on all three institutions are more or less the same, which is design. Whereas NID focuses on design exclusively and integrates other areas through design, NIFT and Pearl addresses different technical requirements of the industry through separate courses. For example, the programme in Fashion Retail and Fashion Merchandising are programmes which are not necessarily design driven. NIFT and Pearl are able to do this because they focus on one industry, which is Fashion. NID cannot do this, as they don't address any one industry exclusively.
I hope this answers your questions to some extent. Feel free to discuss these topics again..

To answer your second question about the selection process, my response is as follows:
Any institution is driven by two factors when it selects candidates,
a. No of seats
b. Quality of candidates
In NID and NIFT, because they are older institutions as well as run by the government, the number of applicants are more than at PAF. Its strange that in India, we still blindly believe that government institutions are better than private ones. If you look at countries such as the USA or UK, the reverse is true. Private universities and colleges are sought after, rather than government ones.
So, because there are larger number of applicants in these two institutions and the number of seats are limited, it gives a false impression that the entrance process is tougher, just becasue larger number of prople get rejected. At PAF, the number of applicants are limited and so are the number of seats.
However, the procedure for selection remains strict and candidates who show commitment and basic level of skills only are selected.
In the end, it is for you to decide, based on the quality of inputs that you get at PAF and your own assessment of your growth as a designer and a professional, to come to the conclusion about the quality of PAF vs NID and NIFT.
Hope this answers some of your doubts. Please feel free to ask anything more...
